Architecture as Spatial Interface

Eunjung Yoo is a Seoul-based spatial designer, researcher and educator whose work explores the intersection of architecture, spatial experience, XR, media and emerging technology.

Educated in design at Seoul National University and architecture at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design (Harvard GSD), she works across architecture, interiors, exhibitions, media environments and virtual space.

​

Her research approaches architecture not simply as a physical object, but as a spatial interface through which the body, image, environment and technology interact. Central to this investigation is Portal Architecture, a design framework examining how architecture mediates transitions between physical and virtual space, interior and exterior, reality and representation, and body and image.

Her broader research interests include embodied perception, generative space, ambience design, immersive environments, media architecture and XR.

Through professional practice, research and design education, Yoo develops a Research through Design methodology connecting theoretical inquiry with spatial design, representation, prototyping and full-scale built environments.

공간 설계, 공간 경험, 미디어 환경, 가상-물리 공간의 공존이 교차하는 지점을 연구하고 실천해 온 공간연구자이자 교육자, 실무자입니다. 건축을 단순한 물리적 구축물이 아니라, 신체, 이미지, 환경, 기술이 상호작용하는 공간적 인터페이스로 이해하는 데서 출발하여 포털 아키텍처 개념을 중심으로, 건축공간이 물리공간과 가상공간, 내부와 외부, 실제와 재현, 신체와 이미지를 어떻게 매개하고 전환하는지를 탐구해 오고 있습니다. 이는 생성적 신체, 공간의 경계와 전이, 엠비언스디자인, 미디어 건축과 XR환경으로

확장됩니다. 건축, 인테리어, 전시, 미디어, 가구 등 다양한 스케일을 넘나드는 실무 프로젝트 및 교육 경험을 통해, 이론과 설계스튜디오, 재현, 프로토타입, 실제 구축을 연결하는 리서치 기반 설계 방법론을 모색하고 있습니다.
