Beyond the View_63 Sky Picnic : A Portal between City, Body and Media

63 SKY PICNIC re-imagines the observatory of Seoul's 63 Building as a portal connecting city, body, and media. Moving beyond passive viewing, the project proposes a new observatory typology in which visitors inhabit the landscape through an unfolding sequence of physical and virtual experiences.

The design connects interior and exterior, architecture and city, and reality and imagination. In Immersive Seoul, panoramic urban views overlap with mirrors, floor LEDs, and visitors' reflections. These layers expand perceived depth and place the body within a changing landscape. Sky Voyage Theater extends this journey through projection mapping across five surfaces, combining 360-degree footage of Seoul with AI-generated interpretations of global cities.

From these immersive interiors, visitors pass through a dark stairwell and emerge onto the rooftop, where open sky and a 360-degree panorama restore direct contact with the city. The contrast between mediated images and the physical environment renews awareness of place, scale, and bodily presence.

Organized around inspiration, observation, and rest, the journey transforms the observatory into a narrative spatial experience. Architecture acts as an interface through which movement and perception connect different realities. Beyond the View expresses this shift: from looking at a distant city to experiencing it through the body, revealing new relationships between people, technology, and the urban landscape.

63 SKY PICNIC은 서울 63빌딩의 전망대를 도시, 신체, 미디어를 연결하는 포털 공간으로 재해석한 프로젝트이다. 단순히 도시를 바라보는 수동적인 관람 방식에서 벗어나, 물리적 공간과 가상적 경험이 연속적으로 전개되는 과정을 통해 방문자가 도시의 풍경을 신체적으로 경험하는 새로운 전망대 유형을 제안한다.

이 프로젝트는 실내와 실외, 건축과 도시, 현실과 상상의 경계를 연결한다. ‘Immersive Seoul’에서는 파노라마 도시 전망에 거울, 바닥 LED, 관람자의 반사 이미지가 중첩된다. 이러한 다층적 이미지들은 지각적 깊이를 확장하고, 변화하는 도시 풍경 속에 관람자의 신체를 위치시킨다. 이어지는 ‘Sky Voyage Theater’에서는 5면 프로젝션 매핑을 통해 서울의 360도 영상과 AI로 생성한 세계 주요 도시의 이미지가 결합되며, 현실의 도시를 넘어서는 몰입형 공간 경험으로 확장된다.

방문자는 이러한 몰입형 실내 공간을 지나 어두운 계단실을 통과한 후, 열린 하늘과 서울의 360도 파노라마가 펼쳐지는 루프탑에 도달한다. 매개된 이미지와 물리적 환경 사이의 대비는 장소와 스케일, 신체적 현존에 대한 감각을 새롭게 환기한다.
영감, 조망, 휴식의 경험을 중심으로 구성된 공간의 여정은 기존 전망대를 서사적 공간 경험으로 전환한다. 이 과정에서 건축은 신체의 움직임과 지각을 통해 서로 다른 현실을 연결하는 인터페이스로 작동한다.

‘Beyond the View’는 멀리 있는 도시를 바라보는 것에서 나아가, 신체를 통해 도시를 직접 경험하는 방식으로의 전환을 의미한다. 이를 통해 사람과 기술, 도시 환경 사이의 새로운 관계와 공간 경험의 가능성을 제시한다.
